Reviews for The Quickening
Top Five Show of the week:
MDTHEATREGUIDE Review:
I wish I could more details into the happenings on stage, but I don’t want to give any additional details away. The only other thing I will say is that it is very hard to produce jump scares on stage and to do it a number of times is marvelous. My challenge to you is to go see “The Quickening” and count the number of times you jump!
“In breaking the fourth wall, Scharf and director, Ann Turiano invite us in rather like summoning us to gather round the fire to hear tales of terror on a dark night. Turiano does a fine job eliciting performances that avoid stereotypes and tying all the elements together like the innovative lighting and sound ( by Tabetha White and Devyn Deguzman), the detailed set which goes from moving boxes to cozy home to séance scene to normal but feels like Rosemary’s Baby.”

“Scharf’s script and story are thought-provoking, and successful at presenting the idea that a new life may not necessarily be “new.” Just when you’re about to open your program to read the director’s note again, the play grabs your attention.”

“The performances are admirable and the technical aspect is outstanding. Creating characters and bringing a piece to life for the first time can be difficult, but this team has done it beautifully. The entire cast, crew, and playwright are to be commended for their efforts and this is not a production you want miss this season.”

“Do you like horror movies? Do you like suspense and discussions of supernatural? This is your play! Go and support local playwright Scharf, The Collaborative Theater Company, and FPCT as they end their season on a high note. The thrills and chills are real, the hauntings and ghostly encounters leave the audience wanting more, and the unease as you exit the theater is real- not contrived. ”
